Power Plan Assistant is a power management tool for Windows 7 and 8 laptops, that offers a unique set of features designed to complement the functionality of these two operating systems. And when you turn off the compositor (Main > Settings > Window Manager Tweaks > Compositor tab > deselect Enable display compositing) I get near perfect speeds.Power Plan Assistant: The world's smartest power management tool I'm using X2GO to remote to a XFCE session (for some reason the XFCE selection in X2GO does not work so I just ran with /usr/bin/dbus-launch /usr/bin/startxfce4). I dont entirely understand why but raising an entire desktop environment via rdp like X2GO (and probably VNC and others) protocols is much better. SOLUTION - For those who are interested it seems like X11 is a lost cause. Is there something that I am missing here? Is this typical of an X11 forward? I feel like the tutorials that I see on youtube provide much better results but maybe this is because they have a better internet connection (but i dont think that mine is that bad). I tried also doing the same thing over the local network instead of the internet and it is a far better experience but still very choppy (but not really practical as I dont really need remote access when i am on the same network). I believe that it is the internet connection since Firefox runs fine when i use the machine instead of X11 forwarding. It is unbearably slow, and i mean that there is an extreme (like 30sec lag) on typing, icons and window takes forever to load, and this is on the opening tab (ie we are not talking about a graphics heavy page like youtube. To test I establish a SSH connection and open FireFox.When performing these tests htop does not suggest that resources are over taxed.I use the machine as a server and never log into it. The linux machine is older but is able to run XFCE without any problem (its an aged laptop with 8 cores, plenty of RAM, I basically only use it as a server for my docker containers and as a lite fileserver).I only turned on the X11 parts and applied a SSH Key for the connection between the PC's Links to internet with Android hot spot.I was able to get the setup all working but the speed is far slower than what I was imagining. As a side project I set up a X11 forward just to see if I would be able to access my linux PC via my windows laptop but the experience has been extremely underwhelming.
